Automobiles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police stated they were notified by a man who found a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
